APRIL 2025
Photo London Turns Ten
Ten years ago, Photo London was little more than an idea. A few illuminated lightboxes in the courtyard of Somerset House, a poetry performance beneath the spring sky and the hope that someone might come. Photography, while vibrant and innovative wasn’t yet given the platform or recognition it deserved within the UK’s cultural institutions. London lacked the kind of photography fair that cities like Paris and New York had cultivated for decades.

A particularly inspiring work at KunstRAI 2023 was Playful Connected City by Floris Hovers. This artwork depicts an imaginative miniature city, built from wooden leftovers and recycled materials. Kunstrai| Pino: A Provocative Installation
In 2014, Bart Jansen once again caused a sensation with a daring stunt, this time not with a deceased pet, but with the iconic children's figure Pino from Sesame Street. Outside, in front of the entrance to the fair, Pino, who had been hit by a car, lay on the pavement. No visitor could ignore Pino's "body". With this provocative installation, Jansen wanted to draw attention to the endangered nature reserves, which are increasingly having to make way for the construction of motorways. According to the artist, Pino was the last bird that could die in a beautiful and innocent way, but unfortunately he became the victim of advancing civilisation.

ABN AMRO OPEN Lucky loser

And he seized that opportunity. After two tough three-setters, Altmaier defeated Aleksander Kovacevic and Arthur Fils in succession. His adventure ended in the quarterfinals against Alex de Minaur. The next day, the Greek tennis star left Rotterdam Ahoy exhausted.
